Wine Making Notes:
After a mild growing season, the harvest started a bit later than average with great weather conditions. All the white varieties were allowed the best ripening time and could be harvested at the peak of their flavours.
Our Pinot Gris, located on our Rosa glen property, benefitted from the warm and dry summer and fall, developing delicate varietal aromas while retaining exceptional acidity. This fruit is grown on a single cane-pruned block planted only 2 years ago on N-E/S-W oriented rows. It is close to our creek and does not require irrigation.
The harvest took place on the night of March 22nd and the grapes were taken to the winery immediately to retain their cool temperature and avoid colour pick-up from skin maceration. The fruit was gently pressed then racked to medium levels of solids to keep the fruit purity but develop it’s texture. The fermentation was kept at low temperatures, preserving even more freshness and allowing for fine lees contact, which was extended for about two months in the stainless steel tank.
The wine was further allowed to age on very fine lees for another two months before being cold stabilized and filtered for bottling, without further adjunct.
Allergens:
Sulphites.
Nose:
The first nose is fresh but intense with aromas of white-fleshed stone fruits, ripe citrus and finger limes, supported by a wet gravel minerality that echoes the position of our vineyard near the Indian Ocean. When the wine opens in the glass, interesting notes of lemongrass, kaffir lime and melon develop.
Palate:
The attack is full of luscious stone fruits and citrus peels, full and juicy, enveloping the crisp backbone of fresh acids. The finish is vinous and morish with flinty minerality and fine texture.
Food Pairing:
Excellent on its own, with good friends and feet in the sand. Salmon tataki with wasabi mayonnaise. Shark bay wild tiger prawns. Young asparagus risotto.

12.8%
